SYMPOSIUM ON EMERGING MARKET INVESTING

The Weiss Center and INVESTMENT POLICY Magazine sponsored a symposium on "Emerging Market Investing" at Wharton in June 1999. This symposium was organized by Malcolm Mitchell, Editor of INVESTMENT POLICY Magazine, and Richard Marston, Director of the Weiss Center. It brought together experts from investment firms, international agencies, and academia to discuss emerging market economies and their equity and bond markets. Held soon after the end of the Asian crisis of 1997-98, the symposium provided a post-mortem on the crisis and offered a reassessment of pre-crisis beliefs regarding the investment prospects of emerging markets.
