Bio for Gordon M. Bodnar

Gordon joined the International Economic Department at SAIS as a Professor of International Finance in 1999.  In 2001, he was named the Morris W. Offit Professor of International Finance.  Before joining SAIS, he held appointments at The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and the William E. Simon Graduate School of Business at the University of Rochester. He has also been a visiting professor at Frankfurt University in Germany.  He received his Ph.D. in Economics from Princeton University in 1991. For the 2003-2004 academic year he will be the Acting Director of the International Economics Program at SAIS. 

His research focuses largely on the intersection between international finance and corporate finance.  Specific topics include corporate exchange rate exposure, foreign exchange risk management, the valuation of multinational operations, and financial disclosures.  Gordon's research has been published in the major scholarly journals in finance, economics and accounting, including Journal of Finance, Journal of Financial Economics, Journal of Monetary Economics, The Accounting Review and Journal of Accounting and Economics, as well as in applied journals like Financial Management and European Financial Management.  Presently, he is a research associate of the Weiss Center for International Finance and the Financial Institutions Center at the Wharton School, and has held appointments as a research fellow at the National Bureau of Economic Research and as a visiting scholar at the International Monetary Fund.   He is  also an associate editor of the European Financial Management, Journal of Asian Economics, and Journal of International Financial Markets, Institutions & Money.

Gordon teaches masters level courses in corporate finance, international corporate finance, international finance, and international project finance.  He also teaches international finance in the Wharton MBA for Executives Program and is a frequent lecturer in other Executive Education programs.  Since 1996, Gordon has been the recipient of six outstanding teaching awards.   He is also an occasional consultant to the financial industry, multinational firms, and international research organizations.
